Prime award for logistics gains goes to Zhuhai Port

Zhuhai Port Holdings has become one of the top 100 logistics enterprises with major brand value in China. The 2017 China Logistics (Golden Flying Horse) Award was granted to the company during the 2017 Boao Forum for Logistics held in Hainan from Dec 6 to 8.

The honor recognizes achievements and potential to make more breakthroughs in the coming years.

Board chairman Ou Huisheng of Zhuhai Port Holdings Group predicted on Dec 12 that the port's cargo throughput would exceed 130 million tons this year, and foresaw the port edging into the top 50 in global ranking by expanding throughout to 200 million tons by 2021.

At the same time in Hainan, China COSCO Shipping Corp Ltd -- a State-owned business conglomerate -- celebrated that its number of domestic containers handled at Zhuhai International Container Terminals (Gaolan) Ltd surpassed 1 million TEUs.

Zhuhai International Container Terminals (Gaolan) is a joint venture between Hutchison Delta Ports and Zhuhai Port Holdings located in the Gaolan Port Economic Zone. It provides cost-effective, convenient, and quality services using land, sea, and rail networks composed of multimodal channels.

A Zhuhai Port Holdings Group manager said they will complete four 100,000-dwt container wharfs in 2018 and more are to come in the next few years. With improved infrastructure, the group's cargo throughout is expected to exceed 170 million tons with more than 5 million TEUs handled by 2020.

For 10 years, the Golden Flying Horse has gone to organizations and individuals making outstanding contributions to the logistics industry. This year it added the 100 best logistics parks in China that inspire advances in the communication, transportation, and logistics sectors.

The forum was sponsored by the China Communications & Transportation Association, Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce, and Hainan Provincial Department of Transportation under the theme, "New Concepts, New Trends & New Logistics."
