New Zhuhai skyscraper now a national-level landmark

updated : 2017-12-22

The 330-m Zhuhai Tower in the Shizimen Central Business District, the city's tallest building, was pronounced as the first edifice in the city honored as a China New Architectural Landmark on Dec 20.

Results were released in Beijing after comprehensive research conducted by the China Index Academy and China Real Estate Index System.

Metrics for the selection include building size, service, functions, regional environment, exterior design, and cultural connotations.

The selection has been held annually since 2014. Research analysis made during the process has become a basis for assessment of the overall status and level of China's architectural development.

The super-tall skyscraper, which has been topped but is not yet fully operational, was developed by the Urban Operation Sector of Huafa Group.

The building has two underground and 65 aboveground floors. Levels higher than the 36th floor house the soon-to-open Zhuhai St Regis Hotel, given a platinum 5-star ranking by the National Tourism Administration.

The remaining floors are designated for international top-grade office space. The tower affords a 270° view of the sea and has attracted many large companies and corporate headquarters.

Adopting an international vision and philosophy, the building not only has a graceful appearance but also reaches the highest level in Zhuhai in terms of green architecture and intelligent functions.

The design reflects joint efforts of more than 40 international teams led by RMJM (Robert Matthew Johnson Marshall), one of Britain's largest architecture and design firms.

The edifice is contributing to convention and exhibition advances in the Shizimen Central Business District. The CBD has formed an industrial development pattern of "two bases and one platform" -- financial industry and headquarters economic bases, and an international business service platform. It has become a hot spot bustling with urban construction, high-end industry development, and modern residential accommodations.

A developer representative is confident that upon full operation, the building will continue to drive high-end services in Zhuhai and promote industrial restructuring and upgrading. It will also, he said, play a key role in construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
