Construction commenced on north-south Zhuhai superhighway Xingye Express Road (North Section) on Dec 28 and is expected to be completed in two years.
Spurring the construction date was a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) financing agreement signed on Dec 19 for the 6.4-billion-yuan ($983 million) project. A 17-km section across Hagongda Road in Tangjiawan Town was then designated as the first construction site.
As part of Zhuhai's "Nine Vertical & Five Horizontal" urban street structure, the new expressway will be a crucial link between the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Cross-River Channel and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridges.
Construction commencement for Xingye Express Road (North Section)
The expressway is to be shaped like the letter "Y." The east line will start from Tangle Road in Tangjiawan and pass through Sun Yat-sen University Zhuhai Campus and Jishan Village in the south. It will join the west line from Hagongda Road and traverse East Jintang Road. Tunnel sections through Fenghuang Mt are required before the lines meet. The main road will pass Dajing Mt Community Park and cross Meihua Road in New Xiangzhou to connect with the south section.
The project was undertaken by an investor consortium led by Zhuhai Gree Group Corp. Zhuhai Urban Construction Group, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering, and Zhuhai Jianan Group are responsible for construction, management, and financing. Upon completion, the express road will be handed over to the Municipal Highway Bureau, which will be responsible for operations and maintenance over the ensuing 12 years.
