RITS, Hopegenes rewarded as new-type institutions

The Guangdong Department of Science & Technology has recognized the Zhuhai RITS Innovation Center and Zhuhai Hopegenes Medical & Pharmaceutical Institute as new-type provincial R&D institutions in its 2017 list. Zhuhai now houses 14 such units entitled to subsidies and preferential policies, ranking fifth in the province.

RITS, open since October 2015, was initiated by Zhuhai and the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen. In cooperation with Zhuhai Tsinghua Science Park, the center has access to the global resources of the university.

The center, with local government backing, has introduced several international high-end companies and talents. Chief among them is Zhuhai Nanometals Technology, a High & New-Technology Enterprise (HNTE) engaged in the R&D, manufacture, and sale of silver nanoparticles, nano conducive inks, and new-generation transparent conducting film.

Itself an HNTE, Hopegenes was the first such company in Hengqin New Area to be listed on the New Third Board, a national share transfer for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Since it was founded in 2012 by life-science and biomedical experts with overseas experience, the high-tech firm has integrated a chain from R&D to production, sales, and services. Products include biological and chemical drugs, medical equipment, diagnostic reagents, and Chinese herbal medicines.

The institute has created an international pharmaceutical R&D platform, and today, using that resource, returned overseas scholars, pharmaceutical enterprises, medical institutions, and investment institutions easily interact. More generally, the institute seeks to upgrade the biopharmaceutical industry.
