A temporary steel bridge on Jinqin Express Road is expected to open before Spring Festival, paving the way for reconstruction of the Nanping Bridge, the Zhuhai Highway Bureau announced on Jan 10.
Jinqin Express Road is a three-section north-south key thoroughfare starting from Jinding of Tangjiawan and running through downtown Zhuhai to link South Lovers Avenue. The 1.5-km middle section will connect Zaobei Interchange with Zhuhai Avenue and cross Nanping Bridge in a dual and eight-lane highway.
Toward that end, by mid-February the 19-section temporary steel bridge, (284 m long and 12 m wide), will minimize impact on motorists and relieve traffic pressure on both sides of the Qianshan River.

Work on Jinqin Express Road is progressing. The north section from Gangwan Avenue in Tangjiawan runs 9.6 km to Meihua Interchange. Landscaping, road construction, and building site enclosures are under way.
The 2.5-km south section from Zhuhai Avenue to Beisan Road in Nanping is undergoing work shed construction and landscaping removal. The temporary steel bridge, pile foundation, municipal pipeline network, and mid-section trestle are works in progress.
Closure of temporary bridge
According to plan, the highway will open to traffic by 2020. By then, it will constitute an efficient connection between Zhuhai's road network and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
The express road will improve the local transportation network and relieve traffic pressure on other roads. It will support economic integration of Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao as well as help to coordinate economic development in the Pearl River Delta, asserted a government official.
