Jinan Science & Technology Innovation Park (Zhuhai) came under construction in Qianshan with a cornerstone ceremony on Jan 16. Partially funded by the city government, the park will develop talents who are specialized in R&D, technology transfer, and commercialization all told.
Overall funding of 250 million yuan ($39 million) includes 150 million yuan ($23.3 million) from the city. Phase I will cost Jinan University 30 million yuan ($5 million), out of 180 million yuan ($28 million). Included are the International Academic Exchange Center, Convention Hall, Sci-Tech Innovation R&D Building 5, and underground parking lot. They will have combined floor space of 31,532 sq m.
Groundbreaking ceremony
The other 70 million yuan ($11 million) will be spent during Phase II on R&D Buildings 3 and 4 and other support facilities.
The strategic partnership park will cover 21,380 sq m with floorage of 48,730 sq m, of which 42,730 sq m will be above ground and 6,000 sq m below.
According to Hu Jun, the university president, this is a new starting point toward a characterized disciplinary system. When opened within one-and-a-half years, the park will feature high and new technology. It is an outcome of a strategic cooperation agreement JU and Zhuhai signed in January 2016 to jointly build a high-level education institution.

The result will be a high-level training ground for innovative talents in Zhuhai. It is foreseen as an important think tank for decision-making on regional development issues. Higher research and academic levels will add to Zhuhai's economic and social development, Hu added.
At present, the campus in Qianshan of Xiangzhou District has colleges of Humanities, Translation, International Business, Electrical Information, Internet of Things Engineering, and Packaging Engineering. It also has the Rail Transit Research, IOT, and Logistics Engineering Research institutes.
