updated : 2018-02-07

The 2018 Doumen Countryside Tourism Year was initiated at Shili Lianjiang Agriculture Sightseeing & Experience Garden in Lianzhou Town on Feb 5 with upcoming "Fun in Spring" and "Dreaming of the Countryside" activities.

Shili Lianjiang scenic spot, one of the "Fun in Spring" main venues, will celebrate the Lunar New Year with an abundance of folk art-related activities from Feb 16 to 20. These include the Lion Dance, singing, adulating the God of Wealth, role play, clown show, Chinese shadow puppetry, umbrella painting, folk-item trade fair, papercutting, sugar painting, printmaking, and pottery.

All this will take place among a backdrop of vast-stretching rape flowers, peach blossoms, Galsang blossoms, and Antirrhinum Majus.

Meanwhile, Yifeng Ecological Health Care Park, which is 3.5 km from Shili Lianjiang, will set a different tone for the New Year. Focusing on a fairytale setting, it will be a floral wonderland of games and snacks from Feb 15 to 22.

On March 2, a parent-child tree-planting activity will help family members bond in an environmentally friendly way. Single people in the Pearl River Delta may join a romantic blind date party designed for them on the same day.

During Spring Festival, Nan’ao, Xiashan and Gaishan villages in Baijiao Town will host parent-child activities and concerts amid the sea of flowers. Also available will be traditional Hakka parades, Tankas (boat people) on-water performances, and mass prayers, as well as culinary specialties Poon Choi (one-pot dish for special occasions), Daguofan (potluck), Mud-Baked Chicken, and traditional glutinous rice cakes.

Yu Wen Quan Imperial Hot Springs Resort will hold a Spring Festival temple fair that integrates hot-spring culture with traditional Chinese folk culture to attract holiday goers interested in folk art, customs, and specialties.

In all, 31 seasonal and holiday activities across six categories have been prepared for the Chinese Lunar New Year. They offer visitors a multifaceted extravaganza of culture, sport, music, and food. The events are likely to attract more capital and industry support for local tourism with upgraded ancillary facilities and tourism system, stated a local official.
