Greater veneration of martyrs seen during festival

updated : 2018-04-09

Tourist revenue was up 26.6 percent to 452 million yuan ($71.7 million), as 807,500 visitors spent their April 5-7 Tomb-Sweeping (Qingming) Festival holidays in Zhuhai. Recorded were 224,300 overnight guests -- increases of 16.8 and 10.3 percent respectively.

Fortunately, there were no accidents or service complaints reported, according to the Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau.

A substantial proportion of visitors paid respects to revolutionary martyrs and took part in patriotic education. Favored destinations were Lin Weimin & Early-Phase Labor Movements Exhibition Hall, March 13th Historical Memorial Park (10,000-Death Bone Fields Monument), Zhuhai Martyrs Cemetery, Su Zhaozheng Square on Qi'ao Island, and Wanshan Archipelago Campaign Site.

Due to fine weather, many chose to experience the spring flower bloom or tour an ecological and leisure site, theme park, or island.

Beyond that, the city was alive with cultural and creative activities, such as the Handcrafting Festival and Car Trunk Fair at Sumlodol Hengqin Camping Park, an electric mix of style, culture and tourism. The new business of auto-camping conforms to the trend of all-for-one tourism and mass travel.

In collaboration with Hengqin Island, Wanshan Archipelago getaways such as Gree Dong'ao Hotel tapped into the potential of coastal relaxation to meet the demands of high-spending travelers.

Zhuhai natives also found fun in the ancient rituals of Huitong Village and aesthetics at the Zhuhai Nanse Fine Art Activity Training Center in the Xiangzhou District Lian'an Civic Art Center in Gongbei.

Nationwide, 100 million domestic tourist trips were recorded during the three-day "Tomb-Sweeping" break, up 8.3 percent from last year, according to the Ministry of Culture & Tourism.
