Beijing reinforces Xiangzhou, Jinwan industries

The PRC Ministry of Commerce is throwing support behind the successful home appliance industry in Xiangzhou District and biomedical cluster in Jinwan District of Zhuhai.

The districts were recently named to a shortlist of 255 National Foreign Trade Transformation & Upgrading Demonstration Bases. With national accreditation, Zhuhai's foreign trade will receive brand promotion and increased international competitiveness, said an official from the city Bureau of Commerce. It is of great significance for further opening of the economy and high-quality development, he added.

The list contains newly developed import-export strategies for China's strongest industries. It is restricted to industrial agglomeration areas with national and local approval for further foreign trade expansion. Improvements in information, marketing, branding, quality, technology, standards, and services are required, according to the ministry.

Xiangzhou home appliances

The household appliance industrial chain in Xiangzhou bested that of many other nominees. It produces a wide variety of products, such as air-conditioners, kitchen appliances, liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs, and video door phones.

This once again demonstrates the importance of Qianshan-based Gree Electric Appliances, one of the largest air conditioner manufacturers in the world, in forming the industrial cluster in Xiangzhou District. Located there are Jinpin Electronic of Zhuhai SEZ, Elec-Tech International, Zhuhai Runxingtai Electrical Equipment, Guangdong Roule Electronics, Panasonic Communications Zhuhai, and Zhuhai SEZ Philips Domestics Appliance & Personal Care.

In addition, the base has the world's largest centers for air-conditioning R&D, national-level technology research, and national-level industrial design, plus a provincial-level key enterprise laboratory. This results in strong innovative capabilities and an impetus for economic growth.

Jinwan biomedicine

On the other hand, biomedicine is receiving priority status in Jinwan. The sector is growing rapidly thanks to an improved industrial chain of bio-pharmacy, chemical drugs, medical apparatus, and healthcare products. These are sold to more than 130 countries and regions, such as Europe, the US, South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

More than 100 bio-pharmaceutical enterprises are located in the base. They include Livzon Pharmaceutical Group Inc, United Laboratories, Rundu Pharmaceutical, Kinhoo Pharmaceutical, Ebang Pharmaceutical, Kindly Medical Devices, and Guangdong By-health Biotechnology.

Zhuhai Biomedicine Industrial Park in Sanzao plans to expand to 10 sq km (3.9 sq miles) and yield output value of 40 billion yuan ($6.4 billion) plus by 2020. It is hoped that the growth will further facilitate industrial growth in other places, such as the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Xiangzhou District, and Hengqin New Area.
