Desirable housing may lure more talent: Pingsha

Pingsha New Town will earmark more than 30,000 sq m (7.4 acres) of land to contain indemnificatory apartments for high-caliber enterprises and talents in the Gaolan Port Economic Zone over the next three to five years.

A 500,000-sq-m (124.6-acre) tract has already been marked off from the residence area where enterprises such as Sany Heavy Industry, Wanhua Chemical (Guangdong), and COOEC-Fluor Heavy Industries have staff housing projects.

The objective is a modernized coastal new town that offers supportive living and commercial facilities. Offices for business, convention and exhibition, R&D and display, and ecological housing will be integrated, according to the local Social Security & Public Utility Bureau.

The Gaolan Port Economic Zone recently issued Measures to Promote the Driving Force of Talents & Establish a Harbor for Talents. The zone wants to tap into regional development potential and cultivate industrial competitiveness.

This need for talent can be largely attributed to Gaolan's rapid development. In 2017, total industrial output value and cargo throughput exceeded 100 billion yuan ($15.9 billion) and 100 million tons respectively. Regional GDP was 27.4 billion yuan ($4.4 billion), a year-on-year increase of 10.4 percent.

Of over 4,000 enterprises registered in Gaolan, 352 are above designated size. There are 27 world top 500 companies and 20 firms with industrial output value of at least 1 billion yuan ($159 million) each. The zone also is home to three 10-billion-yuan ($1.6-billion) companies, accounting for three-sevenths of Zhuhai's total.
