Jinwan discloses biomed incentives in Shanghai

updated : 2018-04-16

Each major biomedicine project newly settled in Jinwan District of Zhuhai will soon receive subsidies of up to 100 million yuan ($15.9 million).

The pending local government policy is designed to advance the district's burgeoning healthcare industry. It lists an award of 10 percent each to projects with total fixed-asset investment exceeding 50 million yuan ($8 million). Meanwhile, up to 2 million yuan ($318,613) will be granted to each enterprise with Class III Registration Certificates for Medical Devices and industrial production in Jinwan.

The policy was unveiled on April 12 at a biomedicine industry promotional conference held by Jinwan in Shanghai. Attendees included China National Medical Equipment, Shenzhen Association of Medical Devices, and companies from Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Jiangsu Province.

Zhao Weiyuan, mayor of Jinwan District, spoke of the fertile investment environment and developmental potential of the local biomedicine industry. Entrepreneurs were encouraged to visit the district in person.

At present, the 10-sq-km (3.9 sq-mile) Zhuhai Biomedicine Industry Park is under construction. It is expected to yield an output value of more than 40 billion yuan ($6.4 billion) by 2020. The park is to have a well-developed centralized system for sewage treatment, hazardous waste, and steam supply.

Zhuhai International Health Harbor in Jinwan, the sole national biomedicine industrial base directly connected to Hong Kong and Macao by road, is to become a major driving force for the local healthcare industry. It will have five functional zones for matters like biological incubation research and development, and five public buildings including a laboratory animal center.

Costing 2 billion yuan ($318.6 million), the first phase has already begun operations with the second phase to open by September.

By then, Health Harbor will serve as a comprehensive industrial site with production, education, research, marketing, and service of high-performance medical devices. An intelligent management system will allow the park to attract investment and manage property online.
