This year, Xiangzhou District will begin converting five more old factory sites into high-end industrial layouts and quality-of-life neighborhoods. This follows significant headway already made in creating a gorgeous city of sustainable development and well-placed high-end industries.
Leading the renewals is a 9.8-sq-km (3.8-sq-mile) Sci-Tech Innovation Small Town in the old villages of Lixi, Fuxi, and Nanxi in northern Qianshan. It is to become a Xiangzhou Industrial Transformation & Upgrade Demonstration Zone; independent innovation sci-tech industrial park under the auspices of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao; and demonstration site of Guangdong Characteristics Small Town.
Sci-Tech Innovation Small Town will also be a pioneering high ground of sci-tech innovations for Zhuhai. Work is to begin by the end of September, according to Xia Yu, deputy director of the office in charge of the program.
Further progress will be made this year in revitalizing other district-wide old industrial areas. These include Shuanglong Mt and Fengshan industrial zones, Tianda Pharmaceuticals (Zhuhai) former factory, and Kaiwei Dongda Science Park.

A new urban complex in Shuanglong Mt Industrial areas will accommodate a business district; high-end manufacturing, design and R&D; headquarters offices; and apartments for talents. The project scope is within the central downtown Shangchong area and neighboring Zhuhai Agricultural Scientific Research Center in the east and to the west of Jinfeng Road and north of Santaishi Road. It will be led by the government and carried out by State-owned enterprises while allowing for participation by private companies.
Meanwhile, Fengshan Industrial Park will be converted into an urban block integrating complex businesses. This is inspired by the design philosophy of Lingnan Tiandi in the city center of Foshan. The project not only preserves historical and cultural heritage, promotes the city's unique identity, but it also ushers in a modern lifestyle and community facilities.
Kaiwei Dongda Science Park, on the other hand, will present a new aspect with additional support facilities to serve high-end commerce and business instead of industry. The project is located on Mingzhu Road, Qianshan. It will set an example of integrating R&D, office, production and testing centers, and headquarters bases.

Advancing the program comprehensively, the government has seen the completion of China City Construction (Zhuhai) Plaza's main body with another 12 projects with combined floorage of 1.38 sq km (.53 sq miles). The list includes the Tianmu Development Center.
Livzon Group and two other projects with combined floor space of .98 sq km (.38 sq miles) have gained approval and the land has been purchased. Meanwhile, eight projects, including Zhuhai Zhongfu Industrial Group, have government approval for refurbishment; total floor space being 1.42 sq km (.55 sq miles).
The 0.24-sq-km (60-acre) Midtown opposite New Yuanming Palace off Jiuzhou Avenue in Gongbei is an example of the renovation campaign. The dazzling metropolitan complex in Xiangzhou District has brought together a subsidiary of Accor Hotel, one of the World's 500 Most Influential Brands, office twin towers as a new landmark, and nearly 50,000 sq m (500 acres) of business blocks and boutique apartments. The complex has ushered in international lifestyle fashion models of the New York's Fifth Avenue and Tokyo Ginza for local residents, a government official proclaimed.
Also exemplary in terms of renovation and reutilization of existing architectures is the Kimka Creative Valley on Mingzhu Road, Qianshan, operated by Kimka Creative Valley Development, a subsidiary of Kimka Int'l. It became the third cultural and creative industry park to be unveiled as a municipal demonstration unit in July 2015 and was designated as a National Technology Business Incubator by the Ministry of Science & Technology in December 2016.
