A three-year action plan has been adopted by the city of Zhuhai to augment urban infrastructure, save and reuse water, enhance public spaces, improve transportation facilities, highlight scenery, and link up historic culture sites.
The Zhuhai Cityscape and Environment Refinement & Quality Promotion Plan was approved in principle at an executive meeting of the municipal government on May 11.
The work focus for this year calls for the all-round upgrade of important city axial zones, allover improvement of urban roads, fortified landmarks, night lighting, and added emphasis to city characteristics. For 2018, there are 74 projects in 36 packages to be implemented in three stages.
Specifically, a 55-km coastal strip will be built along the lines of Lovers Avenue. It will integrate urban functions, landscapes, and historic culture into a visiting card for the Greater Bay city cluster. Greenery, lighting, road pavements, and street facilities will be improved on Jiuzhou Avenue in Jida, Santaishi Road in Qianshan, Hongshan Road in New Xiangzhou, and East Airport Road in Jinwan District.

A clear city image will blend the urban area with mountains and sea, highlighting landmark structures such as the City Balcony and the Sea & Sky (Haitian) Park on Central Lovers Avenue, and Hi City on Yeli Island (all featuring hills and sea). They will be integrated with Fenghuang and Banzhang mountains scenic spots as well as Gongbei Port and other city portals.
In addition, a 24-hour dynamic city will be presented via light shows at the Shizimen Waterway in Hengqin New Area and Zhuhai Opera House. Lighting effects at five bridges and the Qianshan River Landscape Belt will also be improved. Moreover, the protection and recovery of Southern Guangdong Old Post Roads will spotlight Zhuhai's cultural heritages and mold its characteristics.
Over three years, 160 projects under 22 categories will be undertaken in 50 packages.
