City draws attention to traditional Tibetan medicine

updated : 2018-05-30

The 2nd Zhuhai TCM Culture Promotion Week opened May 28 outside New Yuanming Palace in Lanpu area, Gongbei. Continuing until June 1, it is promoting Tibetan medicine's more-than-1,300-year history.

Tibetan medicine is important but different from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in terms of treatments and prescriptions. It is largely based on herbal remedies and closely related to local culture, food, and life science.

Mainling County in Nyingchi Prefecture of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, promoted an icon of its medicine -- the Yellow Tree Peony (paeonia lutea). The endangered variety is used to clear and cool blood to relieve lumbago and arthralgia. Similar medicines are being exhibited at the Zhuhai Museum in Jida to strengthen public awareness of the culture and deepen medical cooperation; the city has been aiding in the improvement of health care and medical services in Mainling County.

The week also features TCM culture displays, exhibitions of Chinese herbal samples, demonstrations of medical techniques, and traditional fitness sports performances. TCM healthcare tourism projects are also promoted.

Locals may benefit from free clinics and consultation services, experiencing massage, cupping, and scraping.

The event is sponsored by the Zhuhai Health & Family Planning Bureau.
