Students and their families from 26 lands parade May 26 on International Day at Zhuhai International School (ZIS) on Qi'ao Island in Tangjiawan. Among them are Germans, French, Americans, and Canadians. Staff, teachers, and guests join the 300 participants on the campus.
Booths attract great interest in culture, food, clothing, and folk games from around the world.
Children receive their own "passports," "travel" around campus, answer questions about countries, and collect stamps. Along the way are some rewards: country badge pin, plastic wristband, piece of cake, or home-made muffin.
Making klompen -- famous whole-feet clogs -- is a Netherlands craft that arouses special interest.
Tea ceremony rituals, tools, and rules of etiquette enlighten children in terms of humanity and discipline. The hope is that they can be nurtured into global citizens and proud representative of their own national cultures.
