A spectacular collection of miniature Zhuhai landscapes was awarded high-quality prizes at the 11th China (Zhengzhou) International Garden Expo. The event opened last Sept 29 in the provincial capital of Henan and ran until May 31.
The 1,700-sq-m (half-acre) Zhuhai Garden captivates styles titled Pearl at Sea and City of Romance. They consist of artistic techniques integrated with local beaches, the Fisher Maiden statue, and oyster shell walls. Architecture featuring environmental protection concepts express the aspiration to become a Sponge City (one that efficiently captures and reuses water).
The creation earned the Top-grade Award in the Outdoor Garden (comprehensive) category and distinct honors for Garden Design, Quality Engineering, Plant Furnishing, Architectural Ornaments, and Innovation. It is the best result for Zhuhai in nine of 11 such expos held since 1997.

The garden was built by Huafa Group and constructed by Zhuhai SEZ Yuanjing Virescence Engineering. Professor Wang Xiangrong of Beijing Forestry University led the design. They stood out among 74 teams competing for top design concept, construction quality, and low-cost management. Judges said they were impressed by how the display captures Zhuhai's livable ecology, scenic charm, and civic vigor.
Held biennially by the Ministry of Housing & Urban-Rural Development and local government, the China International Garden Expo is the largest international forestry and flower event of its kind in the country. It has been staged in various cities nationwide over the years.
Displayed are gardens representing 92 domestic and foreign cities and two international designer teams. Each exhibition area is richly colored or beautifully formed to display royal gardens unique to Beijing, Suzhou private gardens, or Lingnan-style gardens common in Guangzhou and Xiamen.
All the gardens are on permanent display.
