Nine Guangdong cities to face off in waters of Zhuhai

Sailing and windsurfing competitions of the 15th Games of Guangdong Province will be held from July 18 to 22 off Xianglu Bay Beach and Haibin Beach in Jida.

Land-based matches will take place in August in Zhaoqing.

Nine teams comprised of 229 participants from Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou, Meizhou, Huizhou, Shanwei, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, and Zhaoqing will compete in six windsurfing and eight sailing events. Zhuhai is fielding 30 athletes.

Sailors are divided into A, B, and C groups to face stiff competition in OP (Optimist) Class male/female team races, other team events, and OP male/female individual bouts. Windsurfers will compete in two categories -- team (one male and one female), and T293 male/female individual matches.

The competitions are organized by the Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau in coordination with Jiuzhou Navigation Culture.

Zhuhai has emerged as a top choice for water sports; it hosted the China National Windsurfing & National Sailing championships in 2016 and 2017.
