Designers offer plans for the Jiuzhou Port of tomorrow

updated : 2018-07-31

The near-future Jiuzhou Port Passenger Terminal in Jida will have business, leisure, entertainment, and residence functions as part of the 13-billion-yuan ($2-billion) Jiuzhou Bay construction project.

Zhuhai Jiuzhou Holdings Group, the main facility owner at that popular Xiangzhou District site, envisions an urban waterway transportation hub, commercial leisure scenic area, and high-end coastal residential zone with total floor space of 70 hectares (173 acres).

Opened in 1982, Jiuzhou is a national Category-1 port and one of the largest waterway passenger ports in the country. Near to Macao, it is also heavily used for ferry rides to Hong Kong.

Several world-renowned design companies revealed unique ideas on July 27 concerning landmark towers, sunken plazas, randomly layered skylines, and view corridors. Among them are AECOM, an American multinational engineering firm that provides design, consulting, construction, and management services; and Woods Bagot, a global architectural and consulting practice that was founded in Australia.
