The Baishi and Changsheng bridges over the Qianshan Waterway and Zhuhai Bridge spanning the Xijiang River will have cutting-edge lighting systems designed and fabricated specifically for them, according to a recently announced plan.
Final approval by the Zhuhai Urban Utilities & Forestry Bureau is pending public opinion.
The Baishi Bridge connects the east and west banks of the Qianshan Waterway not far from the Changsheng span. The Baishi's innovative illuminations will celebrate important events and festivals. The city's first self-anchored European-style suspension span will display white points of light on stayed cables, which when combined with color-changing projecting beams are to inspire dreaminess. The effect will be realized with modern photovoltaic and acousto-optic technologies.

The Changsheng Bridge in Gongbei will normally have warm-colored LED wall washers casting light on the bridge body, giving it a golden halo. The bridge will be like a gigantic dragon lying on the water, with projectors on the piles simulating scales. During festivals, there will be fixed lights projected onto the piers. The difference in luminance between the bridge's sides and bottom will create a multi-layered view, symbolizing the city's prosperous economic development.

Decorative lights on the busy east-west Zhuhai Bridge will be simple and concise. Beam sides and piers that previously had no lighting will be illuminated each evening.
