Zhuhai Port, City Polytechnic team up to create talent

A corporate university to provide intellectual support was unveiled on Sept 10 by Zhuhai City Polytechnic and Zhuhai Port Holdings Group.

The university will at first consist only of the Zhuhai Port Industry Institute but will eventually develop a complete system incorporating a Leadership College and other subordinate institutions.

Majors will be designed to cultivate talents in shipping, cloud computing, robots, and business data analysis. Teaching quality is to be assured through recruitment of high-level faculty.

Zhuhai City Polytechnic, sponsored by the government, is a full-time college that merged with several other institutions in 2004 in Xihu urban area of Jinwan District. The vocational college enrolls more than 16,000 students and the school covers 88,000 sq m (22 acres) on a plot of 360,000 sq m (89 acres).

The Xijiang Shipping Research Center under the polytechnic's Economics & Management School will help attract professionals into the university and jointly build Zhuhai Port postdoctoral workstations.

Such university-industry cooperation will help develop a modern world-class port operation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, an official asserted.
