Chinese-American celebrity and founder of cosmetic brand Yue Sai – Yue-Sai Kan - was recently invited as the special guest at the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.
Born in Guilin, in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, the television presenter, documentary maker, author and businesswoman has been committed to promoting cultural exchanges between China and the United States for nearly four decades.
In the 1980s, she produced and hosted TV programs in the US, vividly introducing Chinese culture and the opening-up and reform process, which helped China step onto the international stage.
In 1987, she returned to Guilin to shoot a documentary, which was broadcast on over 200 television stations in more than 50 countries worldwide.
During the 20th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit held in Nanning city, she said that she was impressed by the high level and professional organization of the summit.
She added that she particularly liked the theme of this year's summit - a "Harmonious Coexistence, Shared Destiny, Towards the Future" - and praised the rapid economic development of ASEAN countries.
The celebrity recently received the title of the "Guilin Cultural Communication Ambassador."
As the co-chair of the China Institute, she plans to hold a grand celebration on the 100th anniversary of the institute's establishment - leading Chinese-Americans to tell the story of China and promote the rich culture of Guangxi.
