Due to the influence of a strong cold air mass, Guangxi experienced its first cold wave weather of the year starting on Jan 20.

The temperature in various parts of Guangxi dropped sharply, and the range of rain, snow, and freezing was extensive, leading to prolonged periods of cold and rainy weather.

The last significant snowfall in Guilin occurred on Jan 6, 2003, when the city experienced moderate to heavy snowfall. The greatest snow depth of 18 centimeters was recorded in the resource area, with the temperature dropping to minus 3°C.

After a gap of twenty-one years, snowflakes once again graced the skies of Guilin, blanketing the ground in white. Apart from the city center, Ziyuan, Quanzhou, Guanyang, Lingchuan, Longsheng, Yongfu, Xing'an, and Lingui counties witnessed significant snowfall.
