On Oct 26, the Guilin Grand Theater hosted The Cherry Orchard, a Peking Opera show presented by the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts. This remarkable adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic explores the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures and captivated the audience with its powerful performances.

The opera is divided into four acts, featuring a compelling narrative and well-defined characters brought to life through the actors' mastery of singing, acting, and stagecraft. The beautiful costumes and music further enriched the experience, immersing the audience in the charm of traditional Peking Opera.

Directed by Ran Changjian, the production reflects the struggle of a declining aristocracy and rising bourgeoisie during the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and early Republic of China period (1912-49). The narrative emphasizes the importance of adapting to change and finding one's place in a transforming world.

Starring Wang Xiaoyan, Zhang Yaning, and Yu Lukai, The Cherry Orchard aims to inspire cultural confidence and national pride among viewers, celebrating the enduring beauty of Peking Opera.
